- Announcing enhanced-brightness (1500 and 2000 nits) 15-inch TFT-LCD displays
- Product of alliance with Innova Electronics, Inc.
- Forecasts increased industrial display sales
SID 2001, San Jose, CA, June 5, 2001 - Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. and Innova Electronics, Inc. announce the availability of new enhanced-brightness 15-inch TFT-LCD displays. Based on a modified Samsung Semiconductor LT150XS-T TFT-LCD panel, these displays, with a brightness of 1,500 and 2,000 nits, are readable in direct sunlight and high ambient light environments. This enables their use in industrial applications such as marine radar, oilfield drilling equipment, point-of-sale terminals, and most outdoor scenarios.
The display units are the product of a strategic alliance between Samsung, the world's largest manufacturer of TFT-LCD displays, and Innova Electronics, Inc. Innova is an ISO-9001 certified Houston-based company specializing in the design, integration, manufacture and certification of rugged computers and daylight readable flat panel display systems. Their client base includes the aerospace, industrial, oilfield service and medical sectors. Innova systems are designed to survive in adverse and hazardous environments not suited for commercial or light industrial products.
"Innova is an ideal partner for Samsung's high brightness display program," said John Seckerson, associate director TFT marketing, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. "They earned their spurs in the rugged offshore environment where failure is just not an option."
"Samsung TFT-LCD panels are the ideal base on which to apply our innovative high-brightness, cool-running, back-light technology," said Trey Cook, president of Innova Electronics, Inc. "We look forward to creating further leading-edge display products in conjunction with the team at Samsung."
The availability of the enhanced-brightness displays is expected to increase Samsung's customer base, allowing displays to be sold in the outdoor and industrial markets that the company historically has not reached. Today, more than 65 percent of the large-size industrial displays (15" and larger) are used in applications that require enhanced brightness.
Pricing and Availability:
The display upgrades are sold under the Innova name as part numbers STS-5215-SAM-XS-1.5 for the 1500 nits model, and STS-5215-SAM-SX-2.0 for the 2000 nits model. They are available now through distribution at single unit pricing $915.00 for the 1500 nits model and $945.00 for the 2000 nits model.
Samsung Semiconductor, Inc., is exhibiting at booth number 1202 at the Society for Information Displays (SID) Symposium at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, June 3-8, 2001. Innova Electronics, Inc., will be exhibiting at booth number 530.

Company Recognized for Its Outstanding Design and Manufacturing
Houston, Texas, April 14, 1999 -- In recognition of its achievements in the design and manufacturing of ruggedized electronic products, Innova Electronics today announced that it has received ISO 9001 certification.
To obtain ISO 9001 certification, companies must meet a series of international standards for quality design, manufacturing, management and business processes. In addition, ISO 9001 certifies that a company has established programs which enhance quality, efficiency, and on-time delivery as well as customer and supplier relations.
"We believe that ISO certification is rapidly becoming a requirement in today's electronics industry, and many of our customers are beginning to require their vendors be certified" said Trey Cook, Innova Electronics' chief executive officer. "Of course we have had a formal quality system in place for many years. However, this certificate provides formal recognition of our significant efforts in this area and I want to personally thank each Innova employee for his or her efforts in achieving this certification."
According to John Burrington, Innova Electronics Quality Manager, ISO certification ensures that all products purchased from Innova meet rigorous standards for manufacturing including quality source materials and components. "ISO 9001 is a significant milestone for the company because it certifies that Innova Electronics consistently produces high-quality products which customers can rely on," John said. "To maintain our certification, Innova will continually monitor its design, manufacturing and business processes to ensure they meet ISO standards."
Since 1989, Innova Electronics has been designing and manufacturing rugged electronics for clients in the aerospace, industrial, and oil service industries. Today Innova products are at work around the globe, providing dependable performance under conditions of extreme shock and vibration, and at temperatures as high as 200C. These systems have established Innova's reputation for reliable electronics that survive in some of the world's most hostile operating environments.
